Our 2019 Estate Merlot presents a pleasantly purple color, dark and intense. The nose at the outset is reticent, but a little swirling – or a quick decant – begins to push aromas from the glass. Cherry, blueberry and plum are the fruits, and spicy cinnamon stick, licorice, tobacco and just a hint of vanilla round out the delicious essence. Polished and full in the mouth, with cascading blueberry, sour cherry and jammy blackberry, then a bit of sweetness and vanilla from the-well integrated oak. The finish lingers. A low and slow-cooked lamb shank would be a nice pairing. Sneak it in before the weather gets much warmer.
