Our BIG Merlot, the 2018 La Chapelle ages in 100% new French oak for nearly three years. Those barrels impart an intense aroma of hot asphalt, brown sugar, cedar and tobacco, along with nuanced notes of lavender, plum and spicy licorice adding complexity as you swirl and sniff. The first sip demonstrates this wine’s power, with full-flavored cherry, boysenberry, plum, clove and cedar. Chewy tannins on the finish point to a well-structured wine that will last in your cellar for many years, for nearer term drinking we recommend decanting for a few hours. Pair this with chicken thighs, wrapped in Prosciutto and lots of fresh rosemary.
